Lightnin’ Bob’s Bio

BBB Sax player - Lightnin’ Bob Kurowski’s musical bio:

When Bob started playing:

After a trip to a honky tonk with my parents, and hearing a rousing sax player wail out on the horn, I started playing Sax in 5th grade, age 11 yrs old. I learned by playing along with the radio.  We couldn’t afford formal lessons. All the hits of the late 40’s to 1953!”

Bob’s first professional experience was playing with “The Dynatones” from the fall of 1963 to the spring of 1965. Their favorite haunt was the “Willow Beach Night Club” in Buchannon, West Virginia.

“Our biggest moment, we played for about 2,000 fans as the house band for Freddie “Boom Boom” Cannon, at the Clarksburg Armory in 1964. We backed him on his 1962 hit “Palisades Park”. The crowd went wild!”
